Agriculture being one of the major pillars the country's economy leans on, the government has over the years displayed steadfast commitment to boosting this sector by any and all means possible.
An Israeli Agriculture Centre of Excellence is set to be established in the country. Rwandaeye.com understands that a Memorandum of Understanding outlining ways through which the Rwandan and Israeli governments will partner is set to be signed next month.
"We are going to sign a memorandum of understanding in agriculture and animal resources next month with the government of Israel to boost our cooperation in the sector," Ernest Ruzindaza, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture, outlined while briefing members of the press.
Ruzindaza further revealed that the two countries will share experience in increasing production technologies, processing and trade in agricultural produce.
The Centre of Excellence will be located in Masaka, Kicukiro District, and will primarily be used as an avenue for private Israel companies to demonstrate and try out new technologies.
Rwanda stands to gain a lot from this development as Israel boasts a highly developed agricultural sector, and is a major exporter of fresh produce despite more than half its land area being covered in arid desert.
